It was the middle of the night when I heard noises in the kitchen, something or someone was moving around and my wife’s worried expression said… it was my duty to check it out. I crept in quietly, not knowing whether I’d find a burglar or a large rat, neither a comforting thought at 2am. Flicking on the light I jumped into the room shouting… “Arghhh”! The noise stopped, but the room was empty. I stood in my PJs wondering if we’d imagined the noise.

The process of acquiring a home loan is exciting and the closing is the moment that everyone looks forward to. The closings of yesteryear, however, traditionally took place with an attorney present to provide for a witness to the signature and the witness of the loan documents at large.

Wrongful Death

In general, a wrongful death is a death caused by the negligence, recklessness, malpractice or inaction of another. The death may be the result of an accident or other adverse event. Wrongful death cases are usually brought by close relatives of the deceased. Wrongful death lawsuits usually require the following vital elements to prove the defendant’s guilt:

• The person’s death
• The defendant has exercised such neglectful acts, misconduct, omission or malpractice that causes death
• The surviving family members suffer financial burden due to the loss of their loved one
• The appointment of a legal counsel for the decedent’s assets.

In the same vein as a siding recall, a siding lawsuit is a far more aggressive way of dealing with improper manufacturing of siding made with synthetic materials. Instead of a product recall being prompted by the manufacturer’s awareness of the faulty product, or in some cases lack of awareness, a legal representative is hired on behalf of the consumers who have purchased the product to file suit against the manufacturer. A siding lawsuit that is “class action” in nature pertains to a large number of consumers owning the faulty siding. It such cases a siding lawsuit of this magnitude may result in the manufacturer compensating the consumer with a monetary sum to make up for any health, or safety issues and the replacement of the faulty siding.

An Expert Witness is a specialized and quickly growing field of investigation within Computer Forensics and E-Discovery. And as such, these individuals are a leading defense, or offense - depending on which side of the litigation you are on, up corporate America’s sleeve against cyber crimes and prosecuting ‘hackers’. An Expert Witness service typically works closely with a Computer Forensics investigator, or perhaps has the credentials and experience of both.

Tragedy was narrowly avoided. For days Mary lay where she had collapsed in the corner of her bedroom. If it wasn’t for an alert mail-carrier she would have died there as well.

But thankfully this story has a happier ending and in no small part due to a little piece of paper she carried with her in her purse.

Mary was 87 years old. She was single - never married and never had children.

Few people visited and she left her home rarely; just to attend church and to buy food.

A living will is also known as an advance directive, and it is a written document indicating a person’s wishes in the event that they are reduced to a vegetative state by some accident or trauma, and whether doctors treating them should go to all efforts necessary to keep them legally living, or to “allow nature to take its course”.

It is a rather sad time in the United States when we have a day set aside (June 15) called Elder Abuse Awareness Day, intended to raise awareness of abuse towards older adults. This day is recognized by healthcare professionals and support groups and organizations around the world, not just in our country. According to the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA), elder abuse is the term used to refer to any knowing, intentional or negligent act by a caregiver or any other person that causes harm to a vulnerable adult. Much of this abuse takes place in nursing facilities and hospitals across the nation.
